COLLECTING DONATION UNTIL SUNDAY, JULY 11, 2010!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 3rd Annual Comic Book Drive for Our Real American Heroes Little Falls –New Moon Comics in Little Falls invites residents to once again celebrate our troops, and their efforts by participating in the third annual Comic Book Drive for Our Real American Heroes. “We wanted to do something to boost our troops’ morale and let them know we’re thinking of them,” said New Moon Comics owner Robert J. Guadagno. “With the help of our neighbors, customers, and friends last year, we sent over 2,000 New Moon Comics will donate the first $1,000 worth of merchandise to the drive and will match each subsequent comic book purchased for donation with a donation of equal value. All donations will be distributed to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Guadagno was inspired to organize the drive by a good friend, U.S. Army Sergeant Michael E. Merwin, who served in the 10th Mountain Division during the Gulf War. “When Mike was stationed overseas, he told me how much he loved reading the comic books I would send him—he said they helped him ‘get away.’ I’ve been donating comics to the troops on my own for years now, but only recently did I draw up plans to get the whole community involved.” Guadagno said. The comic book drive will be held through Sunday, July 11. New Moon Comics will be accepting donations at its retail store location. Participants wishing to donate or purchase comic books to make a matched donation are invited to stop by the store, located at 463 Main Street in Little Falls, between the railroad tracks and Route 23. Used comic books may be donated at the store. For more information about the drive, please visit www.NewMoonComics.com or call 973-81-COMIC. |
Welcome to the Information Page for our Third Annual Comic Book Drive For Our Real American Heroes.
Although many people are unaware, comic books are still a great source of entertainment. For our soldiers serving our country they are a connection to home, and a short term release from the duties they are performing. They are not heavy to carry, and can be shared umong the other members of any given soldiers platoon.
We at New Moon Comics have already placed hundreds of books aside to be sent this year, and although we are proud to be doing this, and prey it boosts the moral of our countries finest, we hope this will not be needed next year. But if it is, we'll be ready!
THANK YOU TO THE FOLLOWING FOR YOUR DONATIONS...
New Moon Comics, LLC would like to thank the following fantastic customers/friends for their donation to the drive.

PLEASE PARDON OUR APPEARANCE
|
We will have many books that will have special tags on the racks that we feel are ideal for our troops. You may pick any of those books from the rack, or choose any book you wish. When you bring that comic to the counter, please let us know the purchase is for the event. We will process the receipt under a special customer account set up for the comic book drive. The books you've purchased will go directly into the boxes we'll have set up for shipping. Comics being donated will be rung up on a different receipt then store purchases for customers to take home. We are only matching comics that purchased for donation. For proper 'bookkeeping' we are asking our regular customers to keep their normal weekly transaction seperate from their donation transaction. This will allow us to confirm actual numbers of books purchased that we will need to match, but it will also provide receipts to those that may wish to claim the donation on their taxes. We are only matching donations that are purchased from the store. For example, you purchase a comic with a $2.99 cover price, we will match the book you've purchased with the same comic you've purchased; or another comic with a $2.99 cover price. We dont want to turn down any books at all. But there are some things to keep in mind if you do not know about comic books. Or, if you are unaware of the restrictions that the Military may have on the comics. Current comics; in many cases run in several issue long story arcs. We would request that any donated comic be a self-contained story. Since we will not be able to personally hand the books to the troops, please assume that they will not get the complete series. So "One-Shots" or self-contained, one-issue-stories work best for the soldier receiving the comic. Adult content; some comics are clearly listed as 'mature content', since many of these books will be going to another country, that country or our Military may frown upon language and nuditiy that could appear in these books. We hope to get so many books for our troops that going over all of them will be an impossible task, so your assistance in these guidelines will be helpful. We kindly ask that comics (or donated transaction under $10) be paid for in cash. Each transaction processed through our Merchant Services provider is subject to a per-transaction fee as well as other charges based on the amount of the transaction. This drive is not about us making more profit since we have already donated many books to the drive already, and will be paying for the shipping of the books. We are attempting to keep those 'administrative' costs down as well. We are not asking for cash donations, however if you wish to donate a few dollars to the drive, those collected dollars will be used to defer the cost of shipping the books. In the event that there is more cash collected then the cost of shipping, we will purchase more comics to send to the troops. Yes, please. That is the purpose of the event overall! Sorry, no. The purchase of the books are not qualifing purchases for the Frequent Customer Reward Cards since they are donations to the soldiers, not purchases to the store. We will do our best to check out the donated books. Many books from the late 70's through modern books do not have that much 'after-market' value. Some do! We will let you know if a book you are donating is too valuable. We'll leave it up to you to donate the book, or take it back. We do not sell back issues in our store, we do not purchase back issues to sell. Which makes us ideal to run this type of event - the only people that will gain anything are you for making the donation, us for taking the donations to those that will love to read them, and the troops that will have those books to read. Bags/Boards on donated comics will be thrown away as it'll only add weight to the shipping, and are not needed, since odds are these books; we hope, will be read so much they'll be destroyed. There is no need to bag/board books, and if you wish to keep your bags and boards, you may remove them before-hand.
